Hi, I’m Ash’s digital presenter at Podium IT. This week: a security update to check with your IT provider, and two developments in how AI is being used by attackers and defenders. First, AI-assisted cyber attacks. CrowdStrike has reported suspected use of AI coding tools in attacks on South Korean banks. The details are still attributed to its investigation, but the practical question for your organisation is straightforward: are the basics covered? Ask your IT provider whether security updates, multi-factor authentication and tested backups are in place. These remain useful protections regardless of which tools an attacker uses. Next, Atlassian—the company behind products including Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket. Atlassian has released fixes for a critical flaw affecting several self-hosted Data Centre products. The reported issue could let someone access certain application files without signing in. If your organisation uses these products, ask your provider: “Are we running an affected version, and have the relevant fixes been installed?” The distinction matters here: this story concerns self-hosted Data Centre products. Start by confirming what you actually use. Finally, AI tools for security teams. Anthropic is expanding a programme that gives eligible security professionals access to AI capabilities for work such as investigating vulnerabilities and responding to incidents. For most practice managers and business owners, this isn’t another programme to sign up for. It’s a question for your security provider: “How do you assess these tools, supervise their use and protect our information?” Your takeaway this week: confirm whether the Atlassian update applies, check your core protections, and understand how your providers use AI. You can read the source-linked articles on the Podium IT website. If it raises questions for your organisation, Ashley and the Podium IT team are happy to help. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next briefing.
